Most of us spend the greater part of our lifetimes asking the age old question, “Why am I here?” At the tender age of five God made His purpose for Theresa Morton’s life completely evident as this daughter of a Baptist preacher sat at the family piano and impulsively began to croon with great passion her unique version of “At the Cross.” From that moment she began to walk in her calling on a journey towards a career in Gospel Music.
Juxtaposed with the ecstasies of life are its painful uncertainties. Theresa came to this realization in 1995 as she found herself in a situation she never imagined - a divorced mother of two. During this dismal period Theresa agonizingly battled with adversarial thoughts planted by Satan to take her own life. By the grace of God Theresa was able to muster up enough courage to seek the Lord for strength and direction. It was at this moment that she chose life. Through Theresa’s pain and depression she began to fight for her life through her worship and praise, thus the eventual birthing of Thank You. She was then and continues to be determined to minister to single mothers, divorced persons, the least and left out and those roaming aimlessly doubting the power of God to restore, rebuild and reconstruct the fragments of their broken lives.
Since her pursuit of full-time ministry as a means to support her family, God has certainly shown favor. This anointed vocalist, songwriter and director has shared the stage with such household names as Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Vickie Winans, Trinitee 5-7, Marvin Sapp, Babbie Mason, Lee Greenwood and Virtue. Theresa was also responsible for arranging a mass choir to accompany Celine Dion during one of the Olympic Ceremonies in Atlanta, Georgia. Additionally, she is the recipient of the Atlanta Gospel Choice Award, recognized as the Best Female Vocalist.
Theresa continues to share her gift of music with the World both in person and through her website. Her travels have taken her throughout the United States and abroad. She has given of herself and shared her musical gift in many cultural, civic and religious events and with organizations including the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation, the Black Expo USA, Trinity Broadcasting Network, the 100 Black Men, The American Business Women’s Association, The Coca-Cola Foundation, the legendary
legendary Apollo Theater, and a host of churches and ministries. Theresa inimitably combines the sultry and smooth jazzy styles of Billie Holiday with the power and conviction of gospel powerhouse Mahalia Jackson. As she passionately tells the world her story she also presents the gift of hope. Each of the eleven pensive tracks - seven of which she penned - are filled with: a deep and profound appreciation of God for who He is and what He is capable of doing.
His Overwhelming and matchless grace and mercy, an insightful awareness of His presence and hand at work in our lives - especially during challenging times, a humbling recognition of our sinful state and need for salvation and daily renewal, a staggering cognizance of God’s sovereignty in every situation, a desirable remedy for hopelessness, wavering faith and temporary loss of zeal... And the list goes on and on.
